L'Alpe d'Huez
The town of L'Alpe d'Huez, at an altitude of 1,850 meters, enjoys exceptional sunshine.
The resort has long been known as “île au soleil”(island of the sun),
and there are wonderful views over the Ecrins (the local mountain range) and La Meije (one of the highest and hardest peaks to climb in the area).
For those of you who are more sports minded, as well as the skiing and walking,
there are plenty of other facilities to keep you occupied,
including both indoor and outdoor swimming pools,
an outdoor ice rink and a large sports complex (including tennis and squash courts,
table tennis and indoor climbing).
Others can just enjoy the pleasures of relaxation in the mountains.
L'Alpe d'Huez is situated in the heart of the Oisans and six valleys region.
It is the starting point for many mountain routes for cross-country skiing,
ski touring and snowmobiling.
You can also learn about ice climbing and many other winter disciplines.
